PROJECT
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture
In a country where agriculture accounts for more than a quarter of the GDP and provides employment for the majority of its citizens, agricultural education is of vital importance. In Tanzania, Operation Bootstrap Africa supports the Bacho Vocational School which is working to train young people in agricultural skills including animal husbandry, organic farming, aquaponics, and more.
Bacho Vocational School, located in rural Babati, Tanzania, combines traditional farming practices with modern resources and techniques. The school barn and ponds host a wide variety of animals from hogs and rabbits to tilapia. Meanwhile the fields hold local fruits such as bananas alongside crops like squash, peas, and pears, grown from seeds generously donated by farms around the world.
OBA has been proud to support the work of Bacho Vocational School over the last several years with a classroom, tractor and fuel, seeds, and tilapia ponds. In the coming years, the school hopes to build dormitories which will allow more students from all over Tanzania to access their educational programs.
